Music at the touch of a button

So cool: A simple KNX switch is all it takes to turn on music in the bathroom in the morning. A motion detector that magically makes birdsong sound in the guest toilet. Or you leave the house and press the "All off" KNX button: not only the lights but also the music stops. This is how home automation works!

What problem does KNX integration solve?

Multiroom audio systems do have a convenient app for cell phones or tablets, but these devices have to be nearby, charged and switched on, and the app has to be started. If you come into a room and just want to quickly switch on the music, mute it or change the volume, buttons on the wall are quicker and more convenient for this purpose.

How does trivum implement KNX integration?

Various Multiroom manufacturers offer extensions, either themselves or via third-party companies, which connect their system to KNX for a fee. These extensions then have to be configured and programmed, sometimes at great expense. With trivum, on the other hand, the KNX connection is integrated into the product from the outset. Programming the trivum page, e.g. via ETS, is not necessary. You can set up the system conveniently and easily with just a web browser.

Advantages of KNX integration

The integration of KNX in trivum is simple and transparent. In the setup via web browser you switch on KNX, then select your KNX router or IP interface.

Then you can check in the KNX monitor whether messages are coming in, e.g. when you press a button in the wall.

If this works, you can set up trivum actions that react to the messages.

How can you customize the KNX interface?

You can enter the following in a zone: When KNX message 1/2/3 value 1 arrives, switch the zone on and play a predefined source, e.g. a web radio. Or when message 1/2/4 arrives, change the volume. You will see a whole list of possible locations in the web browser where you can enter KNX group addresses.

You can also use KNX to activate predefined zone groups, start announcements or execute macros with several steps. System-wide actions are also possible: A so-called KNX event is created for this purpose, which starts a freely definable action on a KNX message, e.g. to switch off all zones at the press of a button.
However, events are also another option for switching music on or off in certain zones, e.g. above via a motion detector in the WC guests.

What are the limitations of the KNX interface?

KNX IP routing uses UDP multicast messages, which requires a stable network (independent of trivum). The trivum device should preferably be connected to the same switch as the IP router via a network cable.
