Saving groupings

Normally you create groups interactively in the trivum user interface by selecting the zones and grouping them manually. However, this can be tedious if certain zone combinations are used frequently. Instead, you can define a zone group that contains all the desired zones. This allows the grouping to be performed or canceled with just one touch.

What problem do Predifined ZoneGroups solve?

The advantage of a multi-room system is that zones can be grouped together. These groupings make it possible to combine zones to listen to the same music together and adjust the volume either for all zones or for individual zones.
However, it can be cumbersome to undo and redo these groupings in the app each time, especially if this happens frequently. Let's say you have a system with 10 zones and want to merge 5 zones - this can be time consuming and potentially lead to incorrect groupings.

In such cases, it would be helpful to have predefined zone groups that can be activated or dissolved with a simple touch in the app.

How do we implement Predefined Zonegroups?

The predefined zone groups are created in the setup. Up to 64 zone groups can be created. To do this, a name is assigned and it is defined which zones should be part of the group.
KNX telegrams can be used to start or stop groups.

Furthermore, trivum supports the individual volume in zone groups and optionally restricts the selection of zones in the app.

Advantages of the Predefined Zonegroups

Predefined zone groups make the use of groupings considerably easier - and also have additional benefits for commercial environments. trivum zone groups can also handle the volume differently when the group is started. For commercial users, e.g. in hotels or bars, a volume level can also be set for each area. However, different volume ratios are also useful for the zones involved, which always remain the same. The volume levels in all areas can be set at the same time with a touch in the app or via KNX.

And to prevent operating errors, e.g. at the bar or in other areas of a hotel, the selection of zones can be restricted for each zone and the ControlUnits defined in it.

You can also define which predefined zone groups may be started for each ControlUnit.

How can you customize Predefined Zonegroups?

Up to 64 zone groups can be created. Each zone group has the following properties:

  • Designation
  • Icon
  • Type of treatment of the zone volume
    • No special treatment
    • The volume of the participating zones is determined from the volume of the zone from which the zone group was started
    • Each participating zone can set an individual start volume
  • KNX data point to start the group
  • KNX data point to stop the group
  • There are also other properties of the zone groups:
    • KNX data point to switch off all zones that are part of any zone group
    • An option so that only predefined zone groups can be selected in the app
    • For each ControlUnit definition, it is possible that only selected zone groups can be started. You can adjust this in the "ControlUnits" menu for the respective ControlUnit.

What restrictions do Predefined Zonegroups have?

A maximum of 64 predefined zone groups can be created.
